Chocolate Wood Builds Custom Hardwood Wardrobes, Tallboys and Dressers to Room Dimensions
Manly Vale, Australia - October 3, 2026 / Chocolate Wood /
Chocolate Wood, the Australian furniture retailer with a showroom in Manly Vale, Sydney, offers made-to-measure hardwood wardrobes, tallboys and dressers built at its Riverwood, Sydney factory, with the customer choosing the dimensions, the timber and the finish.
Storage Built Around the Room
Bedroom storage is where standard sizing most often falls short. A wardrobe that is slightly too wide for an alcove does not fit at all, and a tallboy proportioned for a standard ceiling can look wrong beneath a sloped one. With a custom-made piece the customer sets the height, width and depth before it is built, so the storage is sized to the room rather than the room being arranged around the storage.
Wardrobes can be sized to the wall they will stand against, tallboys suit rooms where floor area is limited and vertical storage makes sense, and dressers suit buyers who want more drawer space.
Choosing Between Five Hardwoods
Timber selection is a central part of the order. Hardwoods available for custom-made bedroom storage are Victorian ash, American oak, blackwood, blackbutt and American walnut, and each gives a different result.
Victorian ash is a pale, fine-grained timber with a consistent look that is easy to match across several pieces. American oak has an open grain and a warm, light tone. Blackwood, an Australian species, is darker with more variation in the grain. Blackbutt is a dense Australian hardwood with a pale to mid-brown colour. American walnut sits at the darker end of the range, with a rich brown tone.
Because these differences are hard to judge from photographs, Chocolate Wood posts free timber samples to anyone considering a custom-made piece, anywhere in Australia. A sample can be checked in the room where the piece will stand, beside the existing bed frame or flooring. Buyers can see the full range of hardwood bedroom furniture on the Chocolate Wood website.
Showroom, Online Store and Australia-Wide Delivery
Chocolate Wood runs an online store and delivers Australia-wide. The Manly Vale showroom is open on weekends, with weekday visits by appointment, for buyers who want to see pieces and finishes in person before ordering.
For buyers whose needs fit standard sizes, the bedroom range also includes imported stock ranges in mahogany, messmate, oak and recycled elm. These imported ranges are not made to order.
