California Could Lose Control of Its Elections Within Weeks, CalExitNow Warns

Legislature urged to examine lawful separation before Washington controls California's democratic consent

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- CalExitNow warned that California may be approaching an election emergency for which no remedy after Election Day will be adequate.

It's Time To GO!

"An election need not be canceled to be destroyed," said Marcus Ruiz Evans, Founder of CalExitNow. "Control registration, ballot delivery, district lines and judicial review, and voters may cast ballots without controlling the outcome."

Washington is advancing each element.

In Louisiana v. Callais, the Supreme Court narrowed Voting Rights Act protections and expanded states' ability to defend maps with severe racial consequences as partisan line-drawing.

The House-passed SAVE America Act would require documentary proof of citizenship to register and photo identification to vote. More than 21 million voting-age citizens reportedly lack ready access to qualifying documents. Women whose names changed, seniors, naturalized citizens and low-income voters could face new barriers.

President Trump's mail-ballot order and its Postal Service rule would subject state elections to federal voter lists, barcodes and envelope requirements. Noncompliant ballot mailings could be refused. Lower courts blocked the plan. The Supreme Court lifted an earlier injunction without deciding legality. The administration is again seeking emergency intervention as ballots enter the mail.

California conducts most voting by mail. Last-minute federal intervention could disrupt delivery, delay certification and affect control of Congress before courts resolve the constitutional questions.

Senior White House officials have considered suspending habeas corpus after declaring migration an "invasion." Senator Mark Warner and Governor Gavin Newsom have warned of federal election interference. Only 55% nationally express confidence that the midterms will be fair and accurate. In California, 61% identify federal interference as a major concern.

"If California waits until ballots are rejected, voters are removed or results are trapped in court, California has waited too long," Ruiz Evans said.

CalExitNow calls upon the Legislature to authorize immediate investigation of every lawful and peaceful means of separation.

CalExitNow calls upon every Californian to telephone their Assembly member and state senator today. Demand immediate investigation of all lawful and peaceful means of separation.

The resolution would not mandate separation. It would ensure that California prepares before democratic consent becomes impossible to prove and powerless to enforce.
